JOB SUMMARY

At Code.org we create and support computer science curriculum that reaches millions of students, and we prepare tens of thousands of teachers to begin teaching computer science each year. Our Code Studio platform has become the most popular coding platform in K-12 education, and every action taken by students and teachers becomes data we could analyze to improve our product, reach more students and teachers, and impact student learning. Examples of areas you would be analyzing include:

  • developing a deep understanding about our teachers and their experiences in our professional learning programs in order to help them be successful in their classroom
  • how we can improve equitable recruitment of teachers and students, retaining users, and increasing engagement
  • how students and teachers find our courses, how they start them, how they answer each puzzle, the places they solve things correctly, the common mistakes people make, areas students get stuck, and more

We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about understanding and using data; someone who wants to ask questions and find answers. Prior experience in analytics is a must - educational experience is great, but not required. We have lots of education/curriculum experts on the team - you will be the person we turn to for help in understanding how we can use our data to do more.

The responsibility in this job isn't just to answer analytics questions but ultimately to help the team improve outcomes for students, teachers, and schools. This role will help establish the questions to ask in the first place, figure out how to answer them, and ensure we are measuring and collecting the right data across our education products, services, and processes.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Using descriptive statistical analysis and visualizations to guide strategic business decisions and uncover opportunities to improve upon organizational goals
  • Working with internal staff and partners to design and build tools, such as Tableau dashboards, that empower them to measure their progress and identify issues
  • Understanding the top organizational problems and formulating questions that can be answered through data to feed into decisions
  • Maintaining the publishing of our master business metrics, and support the creation of annual reports as required by our funders
  • Designing and maintaining tables in our analytics database to facilitate easy and efficient analysis throughout the organization
  • Collaborating with the Education Programs team, including supporting their survey data analysis
  • Managing Tableau Online instance
  • Supporting data sharing efforts required for external research partnerships and relationships with school districts, donors, and other partners
  • Providing guidance and implement deeper statistical analysis where necessary in Python or R
  • Mentoring a data analytics intern

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate has a breadth of experience and qualifications:

  • Multiple years (3-5) of experience in an analytics role
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to create clear reports to communicate actionable findings to others
  • A deep familiarity with traditional data analysis tools - such as SQL, Tableau, and Google Analytics. You should be experienced writing scripts to analyze data with at least one analytic programming language (R or Python)
  • Experience analyzing data around customer retention and engagement for an online app or website
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences to fully understand the experiences of our students, teachers, facilitators, and regional partners resulting in significantly deeper learning and impact.
  • (Optional) Experience designing data models in an analytics context
  • (Optional) Experience with managing and maintaining business intelligence tools such as Tableau

In addition, you must:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
