We are looking for an analytical problem solver with a solid technical foundation to join our team as a SQL Database Developer. Reporting to the Director of IT, with input from other business unit leaders, you will lead the administration and development of mission-critical SQL Server-based applications. You will be charged with maintaining and improving our existing SQL Server databases and helping design and develop front end applications.


  • Participate in collaborative work with various business units, the IT team, and other subject matter experts for database and front end projects.

  • Create, update, optimize or debug stored procedures, functions, views, reports, triggers, SQL Agent jobs, and SSIS packages as necessary with the goal of minimizing bottlenecks and improving overall information flow.

  • Recognize and incorporate database best practices where applicable.

  • Analyze existing technology stack to identify system weaknesses, and propose and implement effective solutions to meet the expanding needs of the company and to provide better tools for all applicable business units.

  • Clearly and effectively document system changes upon implementation.

  • Ensure that storage, archiving, backup and recovery processes are working and optimal.

  • Help with redesign mission-critical database application (replacing legacy MS Access and Excel front-end tools).

  • Familiar with SDLC processes, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.

  • Understand business needs and propose your own innovative solutions for our existing challenges (we love creative people!).

  • Lead Business Intelligence efforts for MSSQL Server databases, using SSRS, Excel, or similar BI technologies to produce business reporting

  • Proactively report progress across all projects. Recognize urgency of requests and work with business owners to prioritize work as necessary

  • Train and/or mentor as needed


  • 5+ years developing with Microsoft SQL Server, with demonstrated skill in developing effective OLTP databases and optimized code

  • Experience with versions of SQL Server from 2008 to 2019

  • 3+ years experience in SSIS or other ETL

  • 2+ years experience in SSRS

  • Proficiency in MS Access as a MSSQL database front-end

  • Web development experience preferred:

  • HTML5

  • Server: ASP.Net, C#

  • Client: JavaScript, JQuery

  • Image editing and basic web design.

  • Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work independently and across teams while balancing multiple projects/priorities

  • Outstanding communication, organization, and documentation skills, including the ability to intuitively put ideas into tangible form

  • Familiarity with developing MSSQL based applications using a modern programming language

  • Ability to learn how applications work by analyzing schema, querying data, and reviewing SQL

  • Experience in building/managing BI reporting

  • Exceptional system architect and design skills

  • Ability to create/review architecture and specification documents ensuring database security, OLTP performance, and integrity

  • Experience in business process analysis, data analysis

  • Demonstrated ability in all phases of a software/database product life cycle

  • Familiar with Agile methodologies

  • Bachelor of Science in a related field, or a robust combination of education and work experience


Within 3 months:

  • Meet short-term optimization, table structure, archiving, and performance needs for in-house databases

  • Understands, and is able to manage all databases across the company at least at a high level

Within 6 months:

  • Project to modernize our in-house contract/inventory database is well underway

  • Established as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) for all 3Degrees data-related projects

Within 9 months:

  • Have begun work on deeper workflow automation to benefit Marketing and Outreach teams

  • Developed new internal data initiatives and/or external offerings under evaluation or being implemented
