RS21 is currently seeking a Data Scientist Director to head-up our talented Data Science team, provide mentorship and think strategically about how to offer cutting-edge analytics and impactful insights to our clients.

As the Data Science Director you will work closely with statisticians, engineers, geographers, economists, and scholars on a variety of projects for local, state, and federal governments, healthcare organizations and private companies. Our ideal candidate understands the importance of data’s contextuality as it relates to a variety of analytical methods and needs of the client.

This is a full-time position based in our downtown Albuquerque, NM offices and reports directly to RS21’s Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research-driven approaches to create custom solutions using a broad range of data science methods and applications including machine learning, natural language processing, Bayesian and frequentist statistics, geospatial analysis, and graph theory
  • Mentor, develop and lead a highly functioning team while ensuring execution of technical objectives, prioritized effectively and executed with quality
  • Work collaboratively with creative teams of developers, designers, and project managers to lead multiple data science work streams simultaneously
  • Drive adoption and usage of Business Intelligence tools throughout the enterprise
  • Ability to work on complex problems with limited definition of scope or guarantee of expected outcome
  • Build out a data science plan that allows various clients to leverage ML to create sustained value for their organizations
  • Set a vision and strategy that is focused on customer value, owning the overall analytic output of data science teams
  • Capability to lead multiple data science work streams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment in partnership with multiple business stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, or related field is preferred
  • 4 years-experience in data/BI leadership role in an agile environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Python, R or similar language
  • Highly experienced in data preparation, feature engineering, model selection, and scaling successful approaches to integrate with cloud-based architectures
  • Inquisitive, conceptual thinker comfortable working on complex problems at the cutting edge with limited definition of scope or guarantee of expected outcome
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute highly visible, cross-business initiatives
  • Proven track record working with senior leaders, technical and functional teams
  • Excellent leadership, communication and experience interfacing with business teams
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills along with multi-tasking capabilities to get things done in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience staffing, managing, and mentoring data science teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team.
  • Relocation to Albuquerque is preferred if you are not currently a resident

  • Patient-level predictive analytics
  • Automated data modeling
  • Technical skillsets including any of the following:
  • Hadoop, Spark, or other distributed processing engines

  • In depth experience working with managed cloud analytics services
