CommonBond has built a values-driven, customer-centric fintech company. Our mission is to change the way people think about their personal finances and financial independence. We accomplish this by offering products that increase monthly cash flow for consumers, leverage state-of-the art technology, and deliver award-winning customer service. We are also the only fintech company with a 1-for-1 social mission; for every loan funded, we fund the education of a child in the developing world. CommonBond has been named to the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company, the 50 Best Places to Work by Inc., and the Forbes Fintech 50. In 2020, the company made the Inc 500 list, which highlights the fastest growing private companies in America. We are backed by great investors, have an awesome team, and are looking for our next great team member.

As an engineer with CommonBond, you'll be an essential contributor to the capabilities, performance, and security of our platform. We build software that supports billions of dollars in education finance every year.  In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of all aspects of our data infrastructure, including data warehousing, visualizations, tooling, and analytics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dataset with direct implications for the continued success of CommonBond.

Our engineering and product organization is made up of ~20 people (and growing!). We’re organized into cross-functional teams of 3-6 people with clear areas of complementary focus. Teams operate independently in alignment with the broader organizational goals.

You will be contributing to our inclusive environment, fostering a culture that brings out the best in yourself and your colleagues. Your manager will be your champion and coach and will help ensure you are able to grow as an individual while you contribute to the excellence and advancement of our platform.

We offer autonomy, responsibility, and a team of amazing in-office and remote colleagues, plus generous benefits including comprehensive healthcare, student loan reimbursement, a flexible time off policy, paid parental leave, volunteer time off and access to professional development instruments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing, developing, optimizing, and testing data systems, services, and tooling to evolve the capacity and accessibility of our high-volume data platform
  • Identifying our end users’ data needs and building efficient and scalable data pipelines to enable data-driven decisions
  • Creating frameworks and services that will be used by other CommonBond engineers and stakeholders
  • Working with other engineering teams to create and optimize our data infrastructure and tooling

What you’ll be working with:

  • Our stack: Go, Python, React, PostgreSQL, NATS & AWS (Snowflake/DBT, Glue & S3)
  • More stack information: https://stackshare.io/companies/commonbond
  • A team of passionate, curious, and innovative professionals

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to create a vision, architecting scalable long-term solutions that apply technology to solve development and business problems
  • 5+ years of experience working in scalable data environments across multiple big data technologies
  • Experience with designing and maintaining databases such as Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar
  • Understanding of ETL (or DBT) batch and workflow orchestration with AWS Data Pipeline/Glue/Airflow or similar
  • Ability to integrate with Business Intelligence tools such or Data Studio, Looker, Periscope, Quicksight, Tableau or similar
  • Strong understanding in best practices in data warehousing from an end to end perspective
  • Worked with Data streams with Kafka/Kinesis or similar
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Our Engineering values:

  • We believe that ideas are more important than technologies.
  • We understand that the software we build has real-world consequences and take that responsibility seriously.
  • We know that code isn’t just a set of instructions for machines, but communication with other humans; style, elegance, and respect are important.
  • We believe that an ability to balance paying off technical debt and rapidly completing a project contributes to the health of the codebase, engineering team, and organization.

You can work in our New York City HQ; or remotely from anywhere in the US (as long as you work east coast hours). As a heads up, due to the on-going pandemic of COVID-19, if you choose to work from our NYC HQ, it is likely that you’ll start working remotely.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
