For Tech Jobs for Good, vetting organizations helps to ensure that we are working with companies that align with our mission and values. This helps to maintain the integrity of our brand and ensure that we are fulfilling our mission of connecting tech talent to organizations that are making a positive difference in the world.
While the definition of ‘for good’ is subjective, the guidelines below help us define what ‘for good’ means on Tech Jobs for Good. We hope the Impact Criteria provides transparency on our process and helps you better understand how we evaluate organizations.
At Tech Jobs for Good, we define the term 'for good' using several key areas of criteria that we believe are essential to creating meaningful social impact through technology. To be approved on Tech Jobs for Good, we require organizations to meet at least three of the five following criteria.
A clear mission statement is essential for any organization that aims to make a positive impact on society. At Tech Jobs for Good, we work with organizations that have a clearly defined mission statement that aligns with our values of using technology for social good or environmental impact. We believe that a well-defined mission statement helps to focus an organization's efforts and provides a roadmap for achieving their goals. When evaluating an organization, this is the first thing we look for on their website.
Evidence of impact is another key criterion that we use to vet organizations. We look for organizations that have a demonstrable track record of creating measurable social or environmental impact. We look for annual reports, statistics, and measurable impact on an organization's website as evidence of their impact. We understand that not all organizations have annual reports and many new startups will not have a long track record of evidence, in these cases, we look to see that an organization has a clear understanding of how their work benefits society as a whole.
We believe that organizations that prioritize creating social impact beyond their immediate customers are more likely to create lasting change and help build a more sustainable and resilient society. We look for organizations that not only benefit their direct customers or consumers but others as well.
A focus on the system or root cause is also important to our definition of 'for good'. We love to see organizations that are focused on addressing the root causes of social problems. We believe that addressing root causes is essential to creating long-term, sustainable solutions to social problems.
Finally, we look for organizations that have a mission that plays a significant role in their business model. We believe that integrating a mission into an organization's business model helps to ensure that social or environmental impact is at the core of everything they do. We look for organizations that view social impact as a fundamental part of their business, rather than an add-on or afterthought.
We do not aim to be the sole keeper of what ‘for good’ means, just how we define it on Tech Jobs for Good. We created these criteria to give ourselves guidelines and to transparently communicate them to our community, both employers and job seekers. Know that everyone’s definition of ‘for good’ differs. Your perfect ‘for good’ dream job might be different from someone else’s.
That being said, we’re human and we sometimes make mistakes. If you feel like there is an organization on Tech Jobs for Good that does not meet three out of five of these criteria and should not be featured on our site, please reach out with the organization name and reason for removal to [email protected].
