Description
 
 The Principal Integration Developer serves as the enterprise authority interoperability across the Children's National's application ecosystem. Reporting to the Manager of Device Integration and Interfaces, this role defines the long-term integration strategy, architecture standards, and governance models that enable secure, reliable, and scalable data exchange among Epic, Workday, UKG, Salesforce, ancillary clinical systems, and other institutional platforms.

Acting as the lead designer and technical steward for our integration toolset—Cloverleaf, MuleSoft, Epic Bridges, HL7/FHIR messaging, SFTP file transfers, and Clinical API gateways—the Principal Integration Developer translates organizational objectives into actionable roadmaps, establishes best-practice patterns, and oversees their execution. By driving continuous modernization, performance tuning, and risk mitigation across all interface touchpoints, the incumbent ensures data flows are optimized to support patient safety, revenue integrity, regulatory compliance, and strategic analytics initiatives.
 
Qualifications
 

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field required. (Required)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)


Minimum Work Experience

  • 15 years - Requires deep functional knowledge with 15 years of related experience, or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope, and skill reflective of the level of this position. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of HL7 v2.x, FHIR, X12, IHE, and other healthcare interoperability standards
  • Advanced experience with Cloverleaf Integration Engine, Epic Bridges, Interconnect, Mirth, or similar interface platforms
  • Working knowledge of MuleSoft Anypoint Platform or comparable enterprise integration platforms (EIP)
  • Familiarity with SFTP-based batch file transfers, data transformation tools, and system-to-system orchestration
  • Ability to lead enterprise-wide integration initiatives from planning through implementation and sustainment
  • Skilled in translating organizational needs into scalable and secure integration patterns
  • Proven success mentoring and developing technical staff and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with high availability, performance monitoring, and disaster recovery of integration environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Effective communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Adept in developing documentation, standard operating procedures, and integration governance models

Functional Accountabilities
Integration Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise integration strategy aligned with organizational priorities, growth plans, and technology roadmaps
  • Define architectural patterns and standards for real-time, batch, and hybrid integrations across systems, including Epic, Workday, UKG, and Salesforce

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical lead and escalation point for complex interface development and performance issues
  • Collaborate with vendor partners and internal stakeholders to ensure robust and future-proof connectivity
  • Guide the design and optimization of interfaces using Cloverleaf, MuleSoft, Epic Bridges, and API gateways
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, trends, and standards to recommend enhancements and drive continuous improvement
  • Identify and eliminate technical debt and single points of failure in the integration landscape

Oversight and Standards Management

  • Establish and maintain enterprise-wide standards and guidelines for selecting appropriate integration methods (e.g., HL7, APIs, FHIR, SFTP, MuleSoft, Epic Bridges) based on use case, system architecture, and data sensitivity
  • Maintain oversight of all integration types in the environment, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with security and compliance requirements
  • Define and monitor interface classification frameworks to support documentation, lifecycle tracking, and future-state planning
  • Champion proactive monitoring and alerting standards to ensure performance, uptime, and rapid incident response across integration platforms

Mentorship and Collaboration

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to Interface Architects (Level I–Senior)
  • Partner with project managers, analysts, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and clinical/operational teams to ensure alignment across initiatives
