Job Description: Communications Intern
Level: Early to mid-career. Could be upper-level undergraduate or masters level student as well.
Internship duration: The position may last up to one year, with more intensive engagement expected over the next six months.
Type: Part-time position; 10-25 hours/week, with the opportunity to work more or less as available. There is flexibility regarding daytime start and end times and regarding which and how many days/week. At least some hours worked during normal workdays/weekdays PST (i.e. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday) will be required.
Location: Position is remote with online meetings weekly during Pacific time business hours and sometimes requiring multiple times per week as needed.

Hourly rate: $ 25-35/hour depending on experience

Position Overview:
ExpandNet (www.expandnet.net) is a global network of public health and development professionals working to advance the science and practice of scaling up successful interventions. It is led by a geographically dispersed global Secretariat with members in France, Pakistan and the United States. Partners in Expanding Health Quality and Access (hereafter Partners – www.partnersforscaleup.org) is a small US-based 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit organization with headquarters in Davis, California that administers the work of ExpandNet. Partners is currently developing an online learning platform, called the Scale-up Learning Center (SLC) for a global audience of public health and development professionals. The SLC is expected to have an incremental and rolling launch over the first half of 2026. This position will be strongly focused on supporting the development of video-based content and the technical and communications launch of the platform.
The Communications Intern reports to the President, who serves as the primary supervisor, responsible for setting goals and conducting annual performance reviews. As both the President and the Director of Programs and Operations oversee critical organizational functions, the specific oversight of tasks will depend on the nature of the Intern’s work. The position requires collaboration with both organization leaders, with task-related guidance provided by the appropriate manager based on the specific project or function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile, edit, prepare, assemble and upload learning center content, including documents, audio and video recordings for use in the SLC platform, using tools such as WordPress and Final Cut Pro
- Support the development and implementation of promotional plans and marketing material (e.g., brochures, flyers, posts, etc) to raise awareness of the SLC, and the organization more broadly
- Support content development and layout for emails and posts on the ExpandNet website (expandnet.net), Partners website (partnersforscaleup.org), ExpandNet newsletter, LinkedIn, and other public-facing communications
- Support the development of marketing materials
- Provide SLC learner support if/as needed and obtain necessary input from organizational leaders for proper response in a timely fashion
- Update ExpandNet bibliographic database
- Provide support for video conferencing, webinars, and presentations, including organizing participation, formatting draft decks and documents, and providing back-end technical and operational support
Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree currently in process or completed, ideally in public health, international development/relations, communications, business, cultural studies, or a related field; ideally with 1-3 years of professional work experience in program/project support activities. Experience in the nonprofit sector is a plus.
Requirements and skills:
- Strong information technology/computer skills, especially including familiarity with or able to quickly learn web-based content management systems (e.g., WordPress), email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp), video editing tools (e.g., Final Cut Pro) and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools)
- Current access to FinalCutPro or other video-editing software on personal machine highly desirable
- High proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google suite apps
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, possesses the ability to take initiative, prioritize multiple tasks, and able to manage competing deadlines
- Works well via distance within a small and close-knit team
- Strong English verbal, written and cross-cultural communication skills
- Attention to timeliness of tasks and response due dates and ability to appropriately support information flows/sharing
- Flexible and adaptable in a face-paced environment
- An eagerness to learn new skills and topic areas and a commitment to mission-driven, non-profit work
