Humanity AI is a five-year, U.S.-focused philanthropic effort dedicated to building a more human(e) future in which AI is shaped by and for people. As a fiscally sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA), Humanity AI benefits from RPA’s operational infrastructure and financial stewardship while maintaining its distinct purpose and identity. The overall strategic direction of Humanity AI is governed by a Steering Committee of funders who serve as stewards of Humanity AI’s mission and values. A broader table of funder participants serve as active collaborators in shaping Humanity AI’s pooled and aligned funding strategies. Funders have agreed to make grants at the intersection of AI and key issues areas, specifically Democracy, Education, Humanities & Culture, Labor & Economy, and Security.

Humanity AI is seeking a strategic and visionary leader to serve as the inaugural Executive Director of this new, U.S.-focused philanthropic effort to advance socially beneficial AI development and deployment. This is a unique opportunity to lead, shape, and scale an ambitious, collaborative effort to build a more democratic and equitable AI future.

Reporting to the Co-Chairs of the Steering Committee, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for advancing Humanity AI’s goals and strategies. They will reflect and help shape the broader public interest AI agenda, build trust with peer funders, civil society partners and stakeholders from other sectors, and scale Humanity AI’s impact. The Executive Director will play a crucial role in facilitating collaboration and coordination among participating funders and navigating different priorities toward a shared mission.

This position is remote, with the possibility of using a shared workspace if desired, and the candidate can live anywhere within the United States. The candidate must be willing and able to travel regularly (up to 30% of time).

The annual salary for this role is $200-$300,000 USD. The salary is one component of the total compensation package for employees.
