AARP’s Policy, Research and International Affairs leads the development and communication of AARP’s public policies and, research and insights on the issues that matter to people 50-plus.
 
The Data Analytics Manager is responsible for gathering, managing, and analyzing data to produce actionable insights that inform strategic decision making and support organizational priorities. This role develops and distributes regular reports, advises leadership on emerging trends, and partners across teams to enhance data workflows, introduce improved processes, and ensure high quality analytical outputs that advance departmental objectives.
 
As part of the Analytics unit within AARP’s Research Department, this position supports a wide range of core functions, including maintaining and updating the organization’s internal geoportal, creating training materials, and assisting users with varying levels of data and GIS proficiency. The role also contributes to survey design, sampling, and weighting—particularly in the development of small area estimates—while leading efforts to streamline data operations and maximize the effective use of analytics tools and resources across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, manages, analyzes, synthesizes, and provides data to identify trends, draw insights, and address critical questions to achieve organizational objectives. Works with management teams to develop performance measurement frameworks (i.e., KPI's, metrics, etc.).
  • Works with cross-functional teams to align and integrate data platforms/process/reporting capabilities to ensure superior experience, functional excellence, and develop operational efficiencies. Manages data quality and provides support to various projects/analysis gathering data and presenting results.
  • Determines data analysis strategies and advises staff on statistical and data analytic issues. Conducts and/or supervises data analyses, including statistical analyses as required.
  • Contributes to the development of long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and sustainability. Coordinates and integrates division plans with the organization’s business goals and objectives. Reviews achievement of performance versus strategic plans.
  • Evaluates existing programs to identify improvements and to measure outcomes. Analyzes and tests current processes and systems to determine effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Serves as an expert resource on data sources, tools, and analytical procedures/methodologies. Provides expertise including peer review, data interpretation or related technical assistance, training, references, and/or consultation. Evaluates and integrates new or existing data sources, tools, and analytical techniques by monitoring key news, policies, and/or market trends.
  • Develops clear, well-integrated research deliverables, including through data visualization and graphics, that communicate data and insights. Presents data and insights to internal and/or external audiences (for example: media, legislators, press conferences, organization decision makers) in a clear and concise manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) with 3+ years of relevant experience in data analytics, research, or related fields.
  • Conduct descriptive and statistical analyses of large federal and syndicated datasets using tools like SPSS and GIS. Experience with ArcGIS Online required and Excel are required. Tableau and Excel experience is a plus.
  • Translate data into actionable insights, write reports, and develop dashboards and visualizations to support decision-making across the organization.
  • Curate, update, and manage the organization’s internal geoportal in collaboration with stakeholders. Provide training and ad hoc support to users with varying levels of GIS knowledge.
  • Support survey design, sampling, and weighting, with a focus on small area estimates and advanced research methodologies.
  • Manage and respond to data requests, consult with stakeholders on implications, and synthesize complex analytics into clear, actionable insights.
  • Oversee timelines, coordinate cross-functional reviews, and ensure deliverables meet high standards under tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, analytical, and quantitative skills; excellent problem-solving abilities; attention to detail; and the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
