Summary:

ACLM is seeking a Business Systems Engineer to help strengthen, connect, and improve the technology systems that support our organization and our members.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, solving ambiguous problems, improving integrations and data flows, and making technology easier for both internal teams and external users.

ACLM operates a growing ecosystem of cloud-based business systems centered around an association management platform. As ACLM has grown, so has the complexity of this environment.

The Business Systems Engineer will help ACLM take greater ownership of that technology ecosystem. You will work across applications, integrations, APIs, data, reporting, automation, and user experience to identify problems, improve reliability, and build better solutions.

This is not a narrowly defined application-administrator role. It is an opportunity for a technically capable, curious, and self-directed person to have broad impact across a growing, mission-driven organization.

You will initially work closely with organizational leaders, business teams, and external technology partners.

What You’ll Do:

Business Systems and Applications

• Build, improve, integrate, and operate critical business applications at the core of ACLM’s technology stack
• Work directly with teams across ACLM to understand operational problems and identify practical technology solutions.
• Evaluate opportunities to simplify systems, automate manual processes, and improve workflows.
• Help ACLM make thoughtful decisions about when to configure existing platforms, build something internally, or engage an external vendor.

Integrations and Data

• Understand, troubleshoot, and improve integrations between iMIS and other business platforms.
• Work with APIs, webhooks, data exports/imports, integration platforms, SQL, scripts, and other tools to move data reliably between systems.
• Investigate integration failures, inconsistent data, duplicate records, and other cross-system issues.
• Develop monitoring and alerting to ensure system components do not fail silently.
• Document important data flows, dependencies, APIs, and integration logic.
• Work with outside implementation partners when specialized expertise or additional development capacity is required.

Internal Tools, Automation, and Reporting

• Build lightweight tools and automations that make ACLM staff more effective.
• Help teams eliminate repetitive manual work and improve business processes.
• Partner with business leaders to improve access to reliable operational information.

Digital Experience

• Improve the user experience for members, customers, and other users as they move across ACLM’s digital systems.
• Diagnose issues that span multiple platforms, such as authentication, registration, purchases, education, events, community, and member records.
• Identify unnecessary friction caused by system boundaries and help create a more coherent user experience.
• Work with internal teams and external vendors to implement improvements.

Technology Operations

• Help establish better visibility into the health and reliability of ACLM’s technology environment.
• Assist with application monitoring, incident investigation, access management, system documentation, and operational procedures.
• Contribute to technology security, privacy, continuity, and risk-management initiatives.
• Help maintain an accurate inventory of applications, integrations, vendors, owners, dependencies, and technical documentation.

What We’re Looking For:

We are less interested in a particular career background than in finding someone who is technically capable, curious, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership.

You may have a background in software engineering, business systems, enterprise applications, systems integration, IT, data engineering, application administration, or a combination of these areas.

Strong candidates will have:

• Approximately 3–7 years of relevant professional experience, although we are open to candidates outside that range with the right capabilities.
• Experience working with business applications and cloud-based software platforms.
• Experience integrating systems using technologies such as REST APIs, webhooks, SQL, scripting, middleware, ETL tools, or similar approaches.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to trace problems across multiple applications and data flows.
• Enough software-development experience to comfortably read documentation, work with APIs and data structures, write scripts or small applications, and collaborate effectively with software developers.
• Strong analytical skills and an ability to understand both the technical and business sides of a problem.
• The ability to work independently in an environment where every problem will not arrive with a detailed specification.
• Good judgment about when to solve something directly, when to investigate further, and when to bring in specialized expertise.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to nontechnical colleagues.

Particularly Helpful Experience:

Relevant experience may include:

• iMIS, particularly iMIS EMS or RiSE is strongly desired, but not strictly required for a candidate who is ready to learn and has adjacent experience with another association management system or even another CRM system.
• Other association management systems such as Personify, NetForum, Fonteva, Nimble AMS, MemberSuite, or YourMembership.
• CRM or business platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems.
• Association, nonprofit, membership, education, or event-management technology.
• Identity management, SSO, OAuth, SAML, or related authentication technologies.
• Microsoft Azure or the broader Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
• Power BI or other analytics and reporting platforms.
• Integration or automation platforms.
• Application monitoring, logging, or observability tools.
• Data cleanup, reconciliation, migration, or master-data-management projects.

You will not always be handed a predefined project or detailed requirements. Sometimes your job will be to notice that something could work better, understand why, develop an approach, and help make it happen.

At the same time, you will not be expected to know everything yourself. ACLM works with external technology partners and specialized vendors, and an important part of this role will be collaborating effectively with those partners while helping ACLM develop stronger internal technical capability.

This role offers a lot of breadth and visibility. You will have the opportunity to influence systems, processes, architecture, data, integrations, internal operations, and the digital experience of ACLM’s members and customers.

• Develop a strong understanding of ACLM’s major applications, integrations, and data flows.
• Become a trusted technical resource for teams across the organization.
• Take increasing ownership of troubleshooting and improving the iMIS-centered technology ecosystem.
• Identify and resolve integration problems.
• Improve documentation and provide visibility into ACLM’s systems and dependencies.
• Introduce better monitoring and operational practices for important integrations and automated processes.
• Deliver practical automations, reporting improvements, and internal tools that save staff time.
• Help simplify and improve key member and customer experiences.
• Help establish a strong technical foundation that can support ACLM’s continued growth.

Work Schedule & Environment:  

• This is a full-time remote position. Team members must have a reliable internet connection and be available during core business hours.  
• Some flexibility in schedule may be required to meet organizational needs across time zones.  
• Occasional travel (up to 1–2 times per year) may be required for partner meetings, convenings, or conferences.
• The position requires extended periods of computer use in a home-office environment. ACLM provides access to necessary software and systems; employees are responsible for maintaining a professional workspace and reliable connectivity.  
• The team collaborates primarily through virtual tools (e.g. Teams, Asana, etc.); participation and prompt communication are expected.  

Compensation & Benefits:  

• This is a full-time, exempt position.  
• Salary range: $110,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
