About Local Public

Local Public is a Public Benefit Corporation that builds and runs streaming apps for 20+ PBS member stations. Each station gets its own branded apps on mobile and connected TV, backed by a shared CMS, API, and app store operations, so local public media reaches viewers on the devices they use every day. We’re a small, all-remote team, and everyone here is hands-on.

Position Overview

The Product Manager will grow into ownership of our app portfolio: station-branded apps on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, Roku, Samsung Tizen, and LG webOS. You'll shape the app roadmap with the Director of Product, run releases, and turn station feedback and app data into well-scoped work. You’ll also contribute to the CMS, web portal, and API where they shape the app experience. You’ll work directly with the Director of Product, our Senior Product Designer, and our engineering lead and our data team, alongside our external development partners and the station stakeholders and contributors.  

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Working with the data team, ensure all features and products have clearly defined KPIs and reporting mechanisms before any work begins, and ensure that we are building the feedback loops we need to refine and improve products. 
• Shape the app roadmap with the Director of Product and own the Jira backlog, writing epics, stories, and acceptance criteria our engineers and external development partner can build from without guesswork, and reviewing designs in Figma before they go to build
• Plan and run releases across platforms, keeping scope and risks visible, reviewing builds, and signing off before features ship
• Support app store submissions and release notes as needed
• Track Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, Samsung, and LG policy changes and stay ahead of deadlines; evaluate emerging platforms
• Monitor app health using the analytics and crash reporting we have, help improve that tooling, and turn findings into prioritized fixes
• Be the product contact for station partners on their apps, run feedback sessions, and explain changes in plain language
• Bring station feedback and app ideas into product discovery in Jira Product Discovery, and help decide what’s worth building
• Maintain app specs and station-facing documentation in Confluence
• Keep app work within our security, privacy, and compliance requirements
• Be available during core hours (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday) and for recurring 8:00 a.m. PT calls with our development partner a few mornings a week, and be proactive with async communication
• Other duties may be assigned at any time with or without notice

Required Skills/Abilities

• Experience managing a data-driven software product or feature set from requirements through release
• Clear, organized writing, from detailed tickets to plain-language partner updates
• Comfort working in Jira, Confluence, and Figma, or similar tools
• Ability to juggle parallel workstreams and work independently on a small remote team

• Shipping mobile or TV apps, including app store submissions
• Streaming, OTT, or connected TV products
• Working with an external development team
• White-label or B2B2C products
• Passion for public media

Education and Experience

• Must reside in, and be legally able to work in, the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years in product management, or related experience in project management, release management, or app operations

Physical Requirements

• Ability to view a computer screen and type for long periods
• Ability to work some evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
